Austin Air HealthMate Plus®

HealthMate Plus® is the version of the Austin Air range designed for persistent odors, wildfire smoke, formaldehyde and VOCs. Compared with the HealthMate it uses the same amount of adsorbent media, up to 6.8 kg of coconut shell activated carbon and zeolite, but with part of the carbon impregnated with potassium iodide, more effective on substances released by new furniture, paints, glues, renovations and traffic. The filter pack combines about 5.6 m² of medical-grade HEPA, and thanks to the 360° intake air passes slowly through the carbon layer surrounding the HEPA: a longer contact time favours adsorption. Steel housing, no ozone, filters lasting up to 5 years.

Maintenance, spares and what's in the box

  • Filter: up to 5 years in typical home use; in heavily contaminated environments it may need replacing sooner.
  • Pre-filter: vacuum it once a month without removing it, using the soft brush attachment (more often with pets).
  • Placement: on the floor, at least 10 cm from walls, with the top grille unobstructed. On first start-up, run it on high for a few hours.
  • 2-year legal warranty (24 months) under the Italian Consumer Code.
  • 3-year commercial mechanical warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, automatic from delivery: product registration is not a condition, it is a recommended service. Details on the Legal, commercial and service warranty page.
  • The mechanical warranty does not cover filters. Defects resulting from the use of non-original spares are not covered, and the commercial extension to 36 months requires the use of original Austin Air spares.

Right of Withdrawal Notice: As this is an air purifier, the consumer is entitled to a brief functional test (power-on and control verification). Prolonged use causes immediate contamination of the filters with particles, allergens and pollutants: in that case the customer is responsible for the diminution in value of the goods (Art. 57, paragraph 2, Consumer Code) and the refund is reduced accordingly. Filters purchased separately cannot be returned if opened or if the original seal has been removed (Art. 59). Full details here.

How long does the filter last?

HealthMate Plus or Bedroom Machine?
Neither is better than the other: they enhance two different things, and the amount of activated carbon and zeolite is the same (up to 6.8 kg). The HealthMate Plus has part of its carbon impregnated with potassium iodide, more effective on formaldehyde and aggressive chemicals: it is the typical choice for new or renovated homes, new furniture and wildfire smoke, and Austin Air recommends it as the best choice for people with MCS. The Bedroom Machine instead adds HEGA carbon cloth, without impregnated media, and is designed mainly for the bedroom. If you want both, there is the Immunity Machine.
Is it suitable for people with MCS?
Yes. All Austin Air models use mechanical and adsorption filtration only, with no ozone and no ionization, and are therefore routinely used by people living with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). In this model part of the carbon is impregnated with potassium iodide, a choice also intended to reduce exposure to odors and volatile chemical compounds. Models with potassium iodide-impregnated media are also used regularly by a growing number of people with MCS; for those who prefer non-impregnated media, the alternatives are the HealthMate, Bedroom Machine and HealthMate Junior.
